Senna PodsSenna alexandrina

Flat papery pods with the seed outlines visible, graded away from leaf and stalk.

About this material

Senna pods are the dried fruit of the same plant that yields Senna leaf, and they are collected and graded separately rather than swept up with the leaf harvest. Each pod is flat, thin and papery, broadly oblong and slightly curved, greenish-brown to pale brown, with the outlines of the seeds visible as raised bumps through the wall. Pods are picked when fully formed but before they blacken and split, then dried flat. Buyers should specify pods explicitly, because leaf and pod are different articles with different handling.
