About this material

Senna leaf is the dried leaflet of Senna alexandrina, and the grade is set almost entirely by how much of the plant other than the leaflet ends up in the bag. Leaflets are stripped from the rachis by hand and dried flat and fast in shade, which keeps them yellow-green rather than the dull brown of slow-dried material. Each leaflet is lance-shaped and asymmetric at the base, with a fine appressed hair on both surfaces that you can feel before you see it. Stalk and pod fragments are winnowed out, since stalk adds weight and nothing else.
