About this material
Haritaki is the dried fruit of Terminalia chebula, gathered from forest trees rather than plantations. The mature fruit is ovoid, roughly 2 to 4 cm long, yellow-brown to dark brown, and carries five blunt longitudinal ribs that are the quickest field identification. Fruits are sun-dried whole; the flesh shrinks onto the stone and hardens, and the surface wrinkles along the ribs. Immature fruit dries smaller, blacker and almost all stone, so grading is by size. De-seeded material is available on request, and is the sensible choice for anyone milling.
