About this material
Gokhru is the dried fruit of Tribulus terrestris, a low creeping weed of dry open ground. The fruit is a hard schizocarp that splits into five wedge-shaped segments, each carrying a pair of stiff sharp spines, which is what makes the plant familiar to anyone who has walked barefoot where it grows. Those spines are also a handling problem: whole fruit must be bagged and moved with care, and most buyers milling the material take the de-spined grade. Colour runs pale straw to grey-brown, and the fruit is very hard and needs a robust mill.
