About this material
Coriander fruit is nearly spherical, 3 to 5 mm, pale straw to light brown, and marked with alternating straight and wavy longitudinal ridges. Indian material is the round type, which is smaller and more aromatic than the oval European type and is what most formulators specify. The whole fruit is brittle and hollow, splitting readily into two halves under pressure, so it is handled gently to keep the split fraction low. Cleaning runs the seed over sieves and a destoner. The odour is mild, sweet and faintly citrus, quite unlike the fresh leaf.
