About this material
Brahmi is supplied as the whole herb of Bacopa monnieri, which means stem, leaf and flowering top together rather than leaf alone. The plant is a creeping succulent of wet ground, so the fresh material carries a great deal of water and silt: it is washed hard, then wilted and shade-dried, and the finished weight is a small fraction of what was cut. Leaves are small, thick and spoon-shaped and stay slightly leathery when dry rather than becoming brittle. Buyers should note that Bacopa monnieri and Centella asiatica are both sold locally as Brahmi; this is the Bacopa.
Also called
Brahmi, Water Hyssop, Nirbrahmi
Traditional use: Traditionally used in Ayurvedic medhya preparations.
