About this material
Bibhitaki is the dried fruit of Terminalia bellirica, the third member of the Triphala group alongside Haritaki and Amla. The fruit is ovoid to almost spherical, around 2 to 3 cm, and is covered in a fine velvety grey-brown down that distinguishes it immediately from the ribbed and hairless Haritaki. The stone is large and takes up much of the fruit, so the de-seeded pericarp is a materially different product by weight and is priced separately. The pericarp is astringent, and the flesh clings tightly to the stone once dried.
Also called
Baheda, Belliric Myrobalan, Thanri
