About this material
Arjuna bark is the stem bark of Terminalia arjuna, a large riverside tree that sheds its outer bark naturally in broad flakes, which is why the material can be taken without felling. Pieces are flat or slightly curved, 5 to 15 mm thick, smooth and pale grey on the outer surface and distinctly pinkish on the inner. The fracture is short and fibrous and the taste is astringent. Bark is cut to a chip size that a mill can take directly, since whole flakes bridge in a hopper. Buyers should specify whether they want the outer grey layer retained or shaved off.
Also called
Arjun, Arjuna, Marudham
